Overview
Kashmit Great Lakes Trek
The Kashmir Great Lakes Trek (KGL) is an adventure that speaks for itself. The very name evokes the stunning natural beauty of the lakes nestled in the Kashmir region. This trek offers participants a once-in-a-lifetime journey through breathtaking landscapes, filled with magnificent memories and physically demanding moments. The serene beauty of Kashmir's lakes, combined with the tranquil atmosphere, casts a magical spell on trekkers. Even the desolate, snow-clad mountains that rise majestically around the lakes add to the trek's awe-inspiring appeal. Often called "Paradise on Earth," Kashmir is the perfect setting for this remarkable trekking experience.
The Kashmir Great Lakes Trek is moderately challenging, typically spanning 7 to 10 days and covering approximately 63 km. The trek reaches altitudes of over 4,000 meters, offering a rewarding and transformative experience on multiple levels—physically, mentally, and emotionally. While nothing can fully prepare a trekker for the inner conflicts and doubts about their stamina during the journey, the sense of accomplishment at the end is unmatched.
To ensure an enjoyable and memorable experience, trekkers are advised to prepare in advance. The trek demands a certain level of physical fitness, so maintaining good health and conditioning before embarking on the Kashmir Great Lakes Trek is crucial. Self-training routines like regular gym workouts, uphill walking, jogging, cycling, and stretching are essential for building endurance. Mental strength is just as important, helping trekkers push through the challenges along the way.
Who Can Join?
No prior trekking experience is required to join the Kashmir Great Lakes Trek. A passion for adventure and the ability to trek 5 km in 30 minutes are key. However, individuals with heart conditions, high blood pressure, asthma, or epilepsy should refrain from participating, as the trek is physically demanding.

The lake and lowering watersand in the Gadsar Valley are two of the valley's most notable features. We set up the tents next to a canal that leads from the Gadsar Lake into the surrounding wilderness. According to local legends, both the water and the fish in Gadsar Lake have curative properties.
