During the Sangla Holi Festival, the village comes alive with the joyous arrival of spring. The mountains are painted red, and the grass glows pink as vibrant colors fill the air, creating a stunning backdrop against the cloudless skies. Holi in Sangla is not merely observed; it is a heartfelt celebration filled with unique customs that include traditional drinking, dancing, and nautanki (theater performances). This festival offers the perfect escape from the hustle and bustle of city life.
The Sangla Holi Festival is part of the four-day Faguli festival, with the main Holi celebrations taking place on the third day, featuring the playful use of dry colors. The festivities begin with a traditional dish called Totu, made from buttermilk and toasted barley flour, served as prasad. Just like during Diwali, oil lamps are lit to mark the occasion. The Faguli festival beautifully blends the joyous spirits of two major Hindu festivals—Diwali and Holi—making Sangla Valley an ideal place to experience the magic of the Sangla Holi Festival.
